A heritage of History
and Culture
Villa Ceriana is not only an extraordinary place for the present, but it also carries deep historical roots. Countess Oretta Ceriana Mayneri shared the story of her family, whose lineage includes Pope Julius II, and their arrival in Pieve Ligure in the late 19th century. The villa, designed by renowned Turin architect Carlo Ceppi (known for designing the Turin Porta Nuova station), is a prime example of early Liberty style, evident in its frescoes and furnishings. In 1900, it became the residence of the Ceriana family, originally from Valenza. King Umberto I of Italy, by decree on July 30, 1882, bestowed the title upon Teresa Ceriana, eldest daughter of the last Count Mayneri and widow of Carlo Ceriana, knight and president of the Superior Council of the National Bank of the Kingdom of Italy.
During World War II, the villa became a safe haven for orphan Jewish children, offering them protection and hope before their departure to Palestine. Today, Parco Ceriana continues to stand as a witness to this memory, blending the past and future in perfect harmony.
