A year of formation
Time to think, guided by the humanities, before choosing your direction.
Accademia XXI is a ten-month residential year of formation, set in a villa in Liguria on the Italian coast. It is designed for a carefully curated cohort of young adults aged 17 to 25 who seek depth, attention and judgement before making decisive academic or professional choices. It is not a programme to consume. It is a structured time for reflection, intellectual formation, artistic exploration and personal responsibility.
In a world that accelerates decisions and rewards performance over depth, Accademia XXI offers something rarer: time given over to attention, conversation and culture. It is built around mentorship from leading Italian practitioners, immersion in Italian humanistic tradition, and the discipline of inhabiting one beautiful place deeply rather than touring.
The transformative journey at Accademia XXI
Our programme
At Accademia XXI, we cultivate critical minds and an appreciation for beauty through the liberal arts, sports, and cultural immersion. Guided by world-class mentors, our students explore humanistic disciplines, while experiencing the Mediterranean lifestyle through tailored sports and wellness activities.
Masterclasses, orchestral evenings, and visits to cultural institutions complete a journey designed to inspire excellence and personal growth.
Our programme does not award formal academic credits. Instead, Accademia XXI offers something rarer: the chance to cultivate cultural literacy, self-knowledge, and resilience, qualities that distinguish our alumni in their university applications, professional pursuits, and leadership roles.
Within this vision, students can choose between two pathways:

An integrated experience of mentorship, humanities, art and physical discipline
Accademia XXI is built on a human-scale model of education.
Each student is guided individually, supported intellectually, and challenged personally.
Our approach combines:
Internationally recognised Italian and European practitioners
Continuous psychological guidance to support self-awareness and decision-making
Core humanities programme that train judgement and critical thinking
Fine arts as tools of perception and cultural literacy
Physical disciplines that cultivate resilience and balance
Masterclasses with leading voices from architecture, diplomacy, music, entrepreneurship, and academia
Institutional visits connecting students with real-world complexity
This is not fragmented learning.
It is an integrated formation of intellect, character and responsibility.
Physical well-being is not an accessory, but part of it. Through structured sports, sailing, surf, tennis, canoeing and outdoor training in the Ligurian coast, students develop perseverance, focus, and embodied awareness. These are essential qualities for future leadership.

A coherent model, not a collection of activities
What makes Accademia XXI distinct is not any single component, but the coherence between them. Mentorship shapes how students approach ideas. Humanities programme train the capacity to interpret them. Physical discipline builds the endurance to pursue them. Art cultivates the sensibility to express them. Each dimension reinforces the others, forming not just capable students, but individuals of judgement and depth.
This integrated model is designed for young adults at a transitional moment, before university, during a pause from it, after graduation, or moving into family business or a different path entirely. It is a year for those willing to invest in the foundations that will make every subsequent choice more conscious, more grounded, and more genuinely their own.
“Quo educatio initium dat, eo vita hominem deducet.” Plato
“The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life.” Plato
An experience designed for depth, not spectacle
Accademia XXI defines itself through the quality of its time, not the noise of its activities
Education here is not accelerated. It is cultivated.
Students live in a deliberately designed community where dialogue, intellectual rigour, shared meals, artistic encounters, and structured daily rhythms form a coherent environment for formation.
The Italian Experience: culture as a living education
Italy becomes part of the intellectual formation, not as tourism, but as cultural context. Ten month here offer more than exposure. They offer perspective.
Students encounter:
- A tradition of humanistic thought stretching from Plato’s Academy through the Italian
- Renaissance to the present
- A culture where aesthetics and daily life intersect
- A social fabric rooted in conversation and conviviality
- Artistic and musical heritage experienced firsthand
A setting shaped by proportion and history
The location is not incidental. Liguria with its proximity to the sea, its architectural heritage, offers a setting where beauty and rigor coexist naturally. Students encounter this balance daily, in the landscape, in the food, in the pace of public life. Over ten months, these encounters accumulate into something more lasting than impressions: they become reference points for the kind of life one might choose to build.
Academic & institutional collaborations
Accademia XXI works alongside leading institutions and individuals across Italy and beyond, providing students with high-quality teaching, masterclasses and direct cultural access.
Frequently asked questions about Accademia XXI
Who is Accademia XXI designed for?
Accademia XXI is designed for young adults between 17 and 25 at a transitional moment in their lives, before university, during a pause from it, after graduation, or moving into a family business or alternative path. It is particularly suited to students who value depth over speed, seek genuine intellectual challenge, and are ready to engage seriously with their own formation.
Is Accademia XXI a university or an accredited academic institution?
Accademia XXI is not a university. It is a ten-month residential me of intellectual and personal formation, not a credit-bearing course. Students who complete the optional Italian language pathway may sit a certified language examination at the end of the year.
What language is the programme taught in?
The core programme is conducted entirely in English. Italian language courses are offered as an optional component for students wishing to engage more directly with the local cultural context.
How many students are admitted each year?
The cohort is deliberately small and carefully curated. The September 2026 founding cohort is capped at fifteen places. Composition is by hand, considered for the qualities each student brings to the group as a whole.
Can students apply after receiving their IB or A-level results?
Yes. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, including following the release of IB results in early to mid-July, allowing students to make a considered decision once their academic outcomes are confirmed.
What is included in the programme fee?
The programme includes accommodation, full-board meals, all academic materials, mentorship sessions, masterclasses, sports activities, orchestral evenings and institutional visits. Detailed fee information is provided during the admissions process.
